THE TRUTH ABOUT STRANGER THINGS SEASON 5

Happy Gilmore 2 (2025) from Netflix

THE DELIVERENCE – THE 31 DAYS OF DREAD

Netflix has emerged as the preeminent film studio of the 2020s, pioneering the streaming era with unparalleled success. In an era marked by swift transformations in the entertainment landscape, Netflix stands as a titan, redefining the very essence of cinematic storytelling. Yet, amidst the clamor of acclaim, one must pause to establish the yardstick by which greatness is measured—a task often shunned by contemporary critics and journalists.

Here at AKAPAD.COM, within the sanctuary of the Film Buff Podcast, we fearlessly tackle these pivotal questions. Armed with unwavering dedication and a commitment to precision, we navigate the labyrinthine corridors of cinematic history.

As we traverse through the annals of cinematic epochs, from the illustrious Robert Evans Paramount Era—bestowing upon the world timeless classics like “Love Story,” “Chinatown,” and “The Godfather“—to the modern-day dominion of Disney, where the realms of Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars reign supreme, we witness the emergence of a new frontier: the era of streaming.

In this epoch of boundless possibilities, no studio has ventured into as many uncharted territories of entertainment as Netflix. In a world where the ceaseless scroll dictates our viewing habits, Netflix serves as a veritable feast for the senses. Their relentless spirit of experimentation, coupled with an unprecedented investment of resources, has propelled them to heights previously unfathomed.

While their competitors have faltered and faded into obscurity, Netflix continues to push the boundaries of creativity and innovation. Even stalwarts with over a century of experience have found themselves eclipsed by the meteoric rise of this cinematic juggernaut.

SUPERHERO TALK

IT’S A JOKE – PEACEMAKER SEASON 2

THE TOXIC AVENGERS (1984)

Watchmen The Ultimate Cut

HELLBOY (2019)

Super Hero cinema is at the core of what formed Peter’s viewing habits, all generating from the summer of Batman 1989 and cascading all the way to Infinity War in 2018. Within this amazing run of film-going, Peter has broadened his education in superhero cinema in every crevice possible, and it’s all on display through his tireless work on The Film Buff Podcast—so much so one might believe Peter himself is a superhero. This obsession stretches to the entire landscape of the superhero adaptation, from the earlier black and white multi-part film series, to the independent adaptations, and the occasional deep dive on lost projects that had nothing but promise.

SCI-FI TALK

The Empire Strikes Back (1980) The Film Buff review for Star Wars May the 4th 2026

Six-String Samurai (1998) – The Film Buff Review of a independent masterpiece

Honey Bunch (2025) – The Film Buff Review – Already one of the films of the Year

The Long Walk (2025) – one of the best films of the year

In the era of Peter’s formative years, it was the Science Fiction film that bound father to son. The simple formula of a young eager mind discovering a common ground with a father through the deeper reflective issues that so many sci-fi films and franchises dance with. It was conversation around Star Trek that gave Peter and his Father Tony a certain dialogue that a rebellious teenage mind would otherwise deny (and yes, Peter was rebellious). As the effects of Star Wars faded during these years, these discussions grew out of films like Soylent Green, the 1984 Dune, Flash Gordon, and most notably the original Planet of the Apes series (still the best). The deep meaning and entrenched philosophy of these films helped Peter understand a bit more of his father through these years, and because of them Peter has dedicated The Film Buff Podcast to documenting these moments that for him became the focus of the film discussion.
